Declutter Your Hearts
In our “always on” age, the idea of doing two things at once is almost a given. Between ever-increasing (and always intrusive) “notifications” the attention of even the most conscientious among us is constantly pulled in multiple directions—work, email, texts, social media—even Amazon delivery. In a sad kind of irony, it is in the midst of our plate-spinning era that brain researchers have come to a definitive conclusion: multitasking is a myth. People cannot focus on more than one task or subject at a time. Every time we change focus, we lose a little bit of concentration, a little bit of perception. The Harvard Business journal has only recently discovered what Christians have known for millenia: No one can serve two masters. In the case of the two sisters we read of in Luke 10, the precept is much the same: no one can maintain multiple “top priorities”—one will always assert itself over the other. Because He loved her, Jesus helped Martha straighten out her mixed up priorities. For anyone with ears to hear, I believe He both desires and will do the same, in 2026.
