Training for Godliness
This week we continue on with chapter 4 of I Timothy where Paul warns of later times during which a demonic “searing of the conscience” will produce all sorts of backwards and false teaching. Even some followers of the Way (Jesus) will yield to this deception and abandon the Faith. What can Timothy do? Paul calls him to the work of a good minister: to diligently train the people in godliness. In Timothy’s context, the training regimen had at least two requirements. First, denounce the falsehood so that the brothers and sisters will be able to detect and resist them. Second, feed God’s flock with the truths of the faith and good teaching. Join us this Sunday as I strive to be a good minister, like Timothy.
Totally eclipsing my efforts, however, will be our time around the Lord’s own table, where He Himself will be our Host, giving us the only food that can provide eternal life: His flesh and His blood. Your brother, friend, master, and King is calling, “Come!” May all who hunger and thirst come to the table of mercy and share in the feast of our salvation.
