“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” These are words from the poem “Invictus.”  No hint of gratitude and generosity in this desert.  Gratitude takes root in the soil of our hearts by grace, recognizing and receiving gifts from God, from others.  The fruit of this tree is generosity, toward God, toward others.
