Good Friday Tenebrae Service

“Tenebrae” is a Latin word meaning “darkness.” We commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion—the punishment that brought us peace (Isaiah 53:5)—by gathering in sober reflection to worship the Lamb of God. Through choral and congregational singing and seven readings we tell the story of Christ being “lifted up”. At the end of each reading, one of seven candles will be extinguished—helping us to relate to the weight of sorrow that Jesus bore—until “it is finished,” and the sanctuary sits in stillness and darkness as worshippers leave as they feel, waiting for the hope of Resurrection. Click Here to go to YouTube for the live stream of this service.
