This Sunday will be round #2 of Jonah & God fighting it out! Obviously, as Gamaliel said later to the Sanhedrin in Acts 5, no one can fight against God & win. Chapter 1 looked like Jonah was down & OUT, but instead he was down & IN the belly of a great fish. Chapter 2 he willingly prays but who wouldn’t – If there’s “no atheists in fox holes,” there’s no prayerless prophets in a fish’s belly! So, in the midst of running from God, asking to die rather than repent, wanting to die again because his enemies did repent, there is this model prayer for anyone who is in distress & needs to return to God.
