Put yourself in the shoes of the disciples—those eleven who were present at the Mount of Olives at the close of Jesus’ earthly ministry. After 40 days like the ones they had just lived (experiencing not only fear, disappointment, and doubt but also joy, obedience, and love)—after all this, how could they ever be the same? As their Lord, master, brother, and friend ascended into heaven, He entrusted them—and all who would come after—with this task: make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that He commanded. This is the calling (or commission) of every disciple—may the resurrected and ascended Lord equip and empower us by His power and authority and find us faithful.
