Overcoming Obstacles and Continuing the Build
From Judea to Antioch, the Jerusalem Council recorded in Acts 15 paints a picture of a Church at a stand still. The main issue at hand was the requirement of circumcision for converted Gentiles joining the Church—the Judiaizers on one side and Paul and Barnabas on the other. The expansion of the Church which God began miraculously at Pentecost was brought to a grinding halt. What did they do? Did they say, “to each their own?” Did they part ways to establish new congregations or denominations? No! The apostles and elders met together at Jerusalem to restore unity through divine revelation and mutual understanding (“it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us” v29). Praise God that His Church prevails and let us have this same mindset—that we will work with the Lord, not against Him, as He continues to build His Church.
