God has been calling His people to eat with Him quite literally for thousands of years. The many feasts and sacrifices of the Mosaic Law point back to that time when God’s covenant with Israel was confirmed. Do you remember just how it was confirmed? Ushered up by God Himself, Exodus 24 records how Moses, Aaron, and seventy elders went up and “saw the God of Israel and ate and drank.” Many years later, God Himself became the passover lamb of His people, and Jesus memorialized His sacrifice with bread and wine warning, “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you (Jn. 6:53). And one day very soon, we will be called home and will feast together in the New Creation at the wedding supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:9). This Sunday, let us heed the Lord’s invitation and come to the table.
