This Sunday we again find ourselves at the feet of Jesus, learning the way of the Kingdom through a parable. We’re told the story of two sons. Both had the same father. Both had been given the same command, “go and work”. And both had the same timeline, “today”. Yet the two rebellious sons respond in two very different ways—and every person who has ever lived will find themselves in one or the other son. When the day was done the harvest of fruit revealed this: one son “proved better than he promised” and the other “promised better than he proved.” Because Christ lives, we can trust Him and we must, in the words of John, “bear fruit in keeping with repentance” (Mt. 3:8).
