Moses

Preacher:
Passage: Exodus 3:1-15a

Who is Moses? Merely the sound of his name would remind a Hebrew speaker of his miraculous infancy—when he was “drawn out” of the Nile by Pharaoh’s daughter he became a prince and his life was preserved from the Egyptian massacre of all Israelite boys. Moses was a murderer and a runner—taking justice into his own hands and fleeing from the consequences. In the pastures of Midian, he became a Shepherd. At Horeb, Moses removed his sandals and became a servant, learning the fear and power of the Lord. As a prophet, Moses demanded liberation for God’s people. As a priest, he established the Tabernacle and the priesthood. In the history of Israel, Moses was a signpost leading the way out of bondage, through the desert, all the way to Christ, the one in whom they and we find the promised place of quiet rest.
