“Check the blueprints again.” Such a direction might be given by a concerned foreman who notices something out of sorts on the building site. If the mistake was grave enough, the one responsible might be called to give account, lest the integrity of rest of the build be compromised. We learn of one such case as the Lord was building His Church. The whole foundation of the Church was modeled after the self-sacrificial (agape) love of the Cornerstone Himself, Jesus. The early Christians followed His example by intimately sharing life together (living in close community) and practicing radical generosity (mutual aid). When a husband and wife both intentionally choose to deceive the Church family, great fear breaks out among the whole community when God brings swift judgment against them—striking them dead in order to preserve the integrity of His Church’s witness to a watching world.
